Opportunity to build within the city of Bucharest, an exercise of professional knowhow and integration approach. With its many layers of history and particular urban sites, the city becomes part of the project. The Student Housing takes this difficult task of having “two” clients ( the University and the city itself) and creates an opportunity for an open discussion between the newly built and the surroundings.
Solution creates the main stage for an open dialogue of interior public spaces, semi-open towards the exterior within the urban area of Timpuri Noi – Gh.Şincai Boulevard. An integrated volume composed of two adjoining buildings with the height of B+GF+8F, respectively B+GF+7F-8F connected by a vertical circulation and several complementary spaces.
This student housing project was an opportunity to create public spaces mixed with the semi-private accomodations for the university’s students. Based on the social nature to of its occupiers the project created a network of reading and recreation areas, organized on two levels. These spaces are accessible from the main circulation, giving rhythm and dynamism to the interior.
The two buildings are connected by this system of public spaces, the communication interface of the building with the outside. Organized in a spatial upward spiral that culminates with a cantilevered terrace–as the main accent on the facade. The spaces and the terrace are designed for leisure activities, having great visibility over the city.
The foyer of the ground floor includes a reception area, waiting rooms and bar while the floors from 1 to 8 contain the main accommodation rooms, reading areas, study areas with all the related utility (equipment, storage, laundry and drying room, IT room), technical rooms on the 8th floor (central heating, central ventilation).Car parks are in the basement and partially on the ground floor. In numbers the building is set on a Plot area = 5214,22 sqm and has a Total built area = 7320 sqm.
The University’s student housing is a second home for many of its young adults studying, playing and creating a particular community within its walls. Since its opening it has encouraged a constant change of ideas and has temporary nurtured its occupiers in their formative years.
