Over time, the building underwent a series of interventions as a result of the emergence of new functional needs.
The earthquakes of 1977 and 1986 also played a role in the degradation of the building.
In 1994 and 1995, on the basis of a specialized technical expertise, strict consolidation works were carried out (in the center of the building there was introduced a boulder bridge instead of the existing one, and on the side wings was made a concrete over the existence of a tile) . Between 1998 and 2006, hygiene and repair works were carried out for bridge consolidation, internal and external repairs to keep the building in good working conditions.
The building was built in 3 stages:
- Stage I - 1887 - initial I-shaped construction with 2 levels (S, P, bridge);
- Stage II - 1930-1931 - completion of the construction on the east side, in the central area, without basement;
- Stage III-1956-1957 - body attached to the west (S, P, floor);
- In 1993 an adjoining body coupled to the outside, on the N-V side, for the thermal plant (P), was built.
Dolj Construction Agency of B.N.R. is composed of three bodies built in different stages (1887 - 1990, 1930 - 1934, 1956 - 1957), which are interconnected (without expansion or antiseismic) and have a different height regime:
- body I (stage I) - has basement and ground floor;
- Corp II (Stage II) - only ground floor;
- Body III (Stage III) - has basement, ground floor and floor.
All the work on the new layers was based on the solutions established by the technical expertise and the geotechnical study.
Existing facade finishes (partially degraded) have been cleaned and finished with new finishes made of the finest materials, including restored profiles and damaged stucco.
The existing exterior carpentry was replaced by a new double oak wood carpenter, mounted in the old carpentry with lining and wooden top in the interior. The new carpentry has taken over the existing carpentry model.
The first part (exterior) of the new carpenter is simple glass, clear or polished, and the second part (interior) is provided with a transparent insulating glass with brass fittings.
The exterior carpenter is equipped with partially renovated, partially refurbished metal grilles, which conform to the existing models.
For the existing access canopy was considered a reconditioning / restoration of the metal compenents and the restoration of the glass in teh spirit of current configuration.
As far as the facade image is concerned, aesthetically, it is not necessary to repeat the grids from the ground floor windows on the first floor, but only to harmonize them for the level of the ground floor.
After the detailed survey of the façades and the discovery of the current degradations, the solution for the restoration of the base and the rails of the stairs / frames was adopted by the granite plating.
Considering the period during which the building was built (at the end of the 19th century) and its importance as the headquarters of the Dolj Agency of B.NR, it was considered appropriate that all representative operations should receive a classic decoration of the time. The best preserved piece is the main entrance windfang, based on which the decoration model is proposed.
Where possible, valuable objects (mosaic floors, carpentry, metal railings) have been preserved and refurbished.
All decoration was executed according to the plans and images presented after a post-consolidation report.
Wooden carpentry has been completely replaced by new carpentry, which has retained its existing model. Representative spaces (main offices) are equipped with door panels filled with oak, frames and sheets, heels and lining across the entire width of the wall; the iron is made of brass.
Restoration of pieces of valuable timber (access to the windfang), which was completed in height.
Historic doors (door made by HAFFNER House, Paris, in 1891 - Door produced by Casa Radcliff & Horner, London in 1893) were refurbished.
The furniture proposed was according to the function of the spaces in which it was used and respected the style of the building.For flooring in the entrance hall area a solution has been adopted to provide for the restoration of the existing flooring, made of white ceramic tiles and colored ceramic tiles, respecting the geometric design and the current color palette.
Aspects related to the historical monument status of the building
The building of Dolj Agency of B.NR, from Calea Unirii str. 6, Craiova, Dolj County, is a historical monument of category "B" with the following stages:
The central part with the two side annexes was built in 1888, the side of the entrance hall with windfang is added in 1926 and in 1955 it has been added with a body D + P + 1E with a frame structure.
The interventions on the monument aimed at consolidation according to the rules of seismic strength in force and the importance of the function in the building, the restoration in the case of the building plans built in 1888 and 1926 and modernization and rehabilitation with the integration of interventions in the case of the 1955 body.
At the inside the beneficiary wanted a restoration of the decorations that in time disappeared in the spirit and style of the 1900s when the building was first built. Research has been discovered in the archives of B.N.R. planes showing the presence in the halls on the ground floor, where activities with the initial audience took place, a skylight supported on discovered cast iron poles embedded in concrete. For a reference to these missing elements, a luminous ceiling in the spirit of the skylights present in the era on the central area of the new conference hall on the ground floor was restored. Remaining restoration of the wooden upholstery up to h = 120 cm and proposed "mirrors" with textile wallpaper (silk) and wood profiles.
On the ceilings were mounted in the conference room wooden cassettes and in the other areas the ceilings with stucco and chandeliers.
