The empty plot was surrounded by one story houses built on a regular pattern and in various styles. At the beginning, the intervention was supposed to fill the urban gap with a similar volume but with a more elaborated design.
Soon after urban considerations, the first reasoning with the investor about the project started from migration. We tend to think of man as settling down for ever and of the house as being eternal. But especially in this area of northern Bucharest, men, streets and regulations change restlessly. Like men, architectural projects grow, buildings get older, sometimes change and most often die.
The stake of the project was therefore to capture the moment where world freezes its movement and takes a snapshot. The choice went for the frozen landscape after a snow storm. It is a rare moment in space for contemplating the ephemeral.
To achieve the project objectives, computer 3D and model studies were conducted. Some involved light and water and some involved snow and wind. For the latest, air tests were directed on scaled models. Layers of foam were spread and then cross-section curves were used for the computer 3D model.
Materials were kept to a minimum: white façade that emphasizes form, grey aluminum carpentry, white parquet. Color irrupts only at the interior on smaller scale shapes that remind the exterior.
Although fitted with contemporary elements such as alternative heating sources, intelligent house elements, sub-flooring climate control, the house was perceived as a statement by visitors, rather an artistical message than a living machine.
