The site is located in the newly planned Dumbrava Vlăsiei residential development, in the North of Bucharest, with a well organized master plan in terms of infrastructure, public spaces and green spaces. The site is thus particular in the Romania, and is freed from a pre-existing built context, making possible a larger freedom of architectural expression.
The aim of the project was to create a single storey house which expresses the vision on dwelling of the Dumbrava Vlăsiei residential development and which relates to the surrounding vegetation and public spaces, especially the main road of the park situated across the street.
We tried to create a discreet object, integrated in the site abundant in vegetation. Since the house is surrounded by a planted garden, we opted for a shape similar to an amoeba, having projections with which the building fuses with the exterior space. These projections define alveolar spaces, some used as terraces, which mediate the relationship between the interior and the exterior of the house. The corner windows, which sustain the sharp edges of the building being in the same plane with the white fiber cement facade, make possible viewing all the surrounding garden from the interior. One of the elements of the context which influenced the configuration of the house is the main alley of the park, which is situated right in front of the site; the entrance continues its axis, axis which is sustained in the interior, guiding the way to the living room. The variation of height, corresponding to the character of the spaces defined by the plan form, contributes to the creation of a dynamic volume of folded planes on the outside and to a flowing, always changing space on the inside. The form and the large spans of the flowing spaces are generated by the long main steel beams, which are sustained by the perimetral concrete skin.
We consider that through the way the spaces were conceived, in a strong relationship with the garden, and the way the building interacts with the surrounding public space, the project will be appreciated by the dwellers as well as by the visitors.
